white label coffee
Jan Evertsenstraat 136, 1056 EK Amsterdam, Netherlands
Editor's Review
Cafe and roastery co-owners Elmer Oomkens and Francesco Grassotti have said they chose the name White Label Coffee to convey a clean, open-minded state. And they deliver: that kind of purism marks their brand, with the progressive, pronouncedly fruit-forward coffees showing up at more and more espresso bars and restaurants in Amsterdam and beyond. It helps that the pair have a well-developed synergy, which began as co-workers at nearby specialty roaster Espressofabriek, where they cultivated their similarly perfectionistic standards and entrepreneurial spirit.
Since December 2013, White Label has had its own cafe. Almost hidden in the hubbub of a shopping street in the city’s borough of West, the spot is narrow but cleverly optimizes space with a multi-level interior design. High on a platform in the middle of the room, the espresso machine appears rather like a DJ booth, elevating the baristas as they pull and pour for their fans.
