Editor's Review

Takk bills itself as a creative-space-cum-artisan-coffee-house in Manchester's Northern Quarter. And, indeed, it delivers on both counts, as well as a few more. The coffee is top notch – the house blend is North Projekt, roasted for Takk by Clifton – filters come in various guises, not least from The Barn of Berlin or The Coffee Collective. You can grab a Chemex, Aeropress, V60 or batch brew, and there are usually at least three or four different options to try. The food is also a strong point, with brunch served until 4pm every day and locally sourced produce coming in pleasingly chunky portions.

The space itself sees old school desks, replete with graffiti (hi there, Bobby Rochford – yes, you were there), bricks walls festooned with local artists, the all-too-ubiquitous drop-lighting, and a well-stocked, engaging bookshop of magazines and various other printed material at the back. There's plenty of seating, either around the wall or at a few larger, central table spaces. The vibe is appealing – warm, vibrant, busy enough to communicate how popular this venue is without becoming annoying or oppressive. A short walk from Manchester Piccadilly station, this café is a must for visitors and locals alike.
