Machine has long been the cycle shop of choice in Bermondsey, offering superb service and great knowledge and advice. When owners Vitas and Victoria (originally from Lithuania) remodelled, they decided to add a coffeeshop to create SE1’s premier cycling cafe. What better combination than cycling and coffee? Coffee gets better with every visit and the cafe have come a long way since opening, serving up filter and espresso based drinks using Monmouth beans. We recommend a macchiato.

Machine features some inventive design touches such as wonderful tables made from glass and cycle wheels and even Brooks saddle seats in the window. The recent pavement widening on Tower Bridge Road has made them an even more attractive option on what was always previously a street marred by traffic – well at least since the demise of the old street markets.

Bermondsey has a strong sense of community that Machine taps into with a lovely friendly atmosphere in a neighbourhood space and organises weekend rides. There are also some wonderful, unique cake options. Sandwiches are named after famous cyclists and stews and soups are also available and there are smoothies and an impressive variety of sodas. We recommend the brioche sausage rolls with caramelised onions among many excellent baked goods. They do all-day weekend brunch with scrambled eggs & bacon have a projector to screen major cycle races (Giro d‘Italia, Tour de France etc.)
