Continental Stores is the second cafe from the guys behind Store Street Espresso. The team have thankfully decided to maintain the beautiful 1920s signage from the previous shop at this location, along with the name - I guess it's simpler than coming up with something new.
Continental Stores is very much from the same mould as its original, shirking East London Cool and the hustle and bustle of central London for the idyllic micro climate of Bloomsbury, sitting peacefully between the British Library and The University of London. Store Street has always remained slightly, unfathomably, under the radar and there are no plans to change the approach here, focusing instead more on keeping their loyal customers happy than pandering to a fickle industry.
The welcome at Continental Stores is warm and friendly, the atmosphere serene, and the coffee from Square Mile as good as I've had it. David Pippin (the man behind Fynch bakery) is now running the kitchen, baking on the premises and masterminding some superb brunches.
