Wilfa Uniform Cofee Grinder Review

Wilfa Uniform coffee grinder review

On the first video of our Product Review series, Cath Seay (Coffee Expert and Co-Founder of Curators Coffee) reviews the fantastic Wilfa Uniform Grinder. The latest electric coffee grinder release from Wilfa — part of the Uniform series.

There’s a reason why this grinder is so good, and it’s because it was developed in conjunction with Tim Wendelboe. Tim is a World Barista Champion and a World Cup Tasters Champion, so it’s safe to say that he knows what he is talking about when it comes to coffee, and it certainly shows with this grinder.

One of the biggest features of the Wilfa Uniform Grinder is that it will grind for Filter coffee and for Espresso coffee. There aren’t a lot of home coffee grinders that can do this, and usually you would have to have a dedicated espresso coffee grinder and a dedicated filter coffee grinder, but not anymore as The Wilfa Uniform grinder will do both.

Wilfa Uniform Grinder - grind adjustments

The Wilfa Uniform Grinder has an adjustment collar at the top, featuring impressive 41 steps that goes from the finest (01) to the coarsest (41) setting, by easily rotating the collar.

The other really big feature of this coffee grinder is its superb grind quality, and it’s because of the Flat Burrs. Flat Burrs produce a ground coffee particle size that is really uniform (hence the grinder’s name!) and it means you get a high quality extraction and a better tasting coffee, compared to Conical Burrs which produce a less uniform ground coffee particle size.

Ground coffee using flat burrs vs conical burrs

This is a really big deal because you are going to have better tasting coffee at home and you won’t have to do anything, it’s all because of the grinder.

To have a look at the burrs, all you need to do is keep turning the adjustment collar in the coarse direction and eventually it will come off, and you will be able to see it.

To use the grinder it really couldn’t be any easier. All you need to do is put it on your desired grind setting, weigh out your coffee beans, put them in and press the central ‘Wilfa’ button. It has an auto-off sensor, so you literally just turn it on, walk away, it will turn it off for you when it’s done grinding.

The coffee grinds into the steel case bottom chamber, so there is hardly any static and makes a much less fiddly experience.

Cleaning the Grinder

To clean your grinder you need to access the burrs. The first step is to make sure that is disconnected from power. To access the burrs, just twist the collar in the ‘coarsest’ direction and keep going until it eventually twist off. The grinder comes with a little brush (but you can also use any paint brush), and all you need to do it’s just brush off any the loose or stuck coffee grounds.

To clean the body of the grinder, just brush with a dry cloth (microfibre is good if you go it). If there’s any small bits you want can’t buff out, you can use a little bit of water, but no chemicals.

The bottom line:

  • Great grinder that does both filter an espresso coffee
  • Developed with Tim Wendelboe
  • Flat burrs - so you have superior grind quality
  • Beautiful design
  • Very easy to use
