The World AeroPress Championships: Iuri Grandini

The World AeroPress Championships: Iuri Grandini

Coffee enthusiast, Iuri Grandini, is the next competitor to answer our questons for the World AeroPress Championships. He is from Italy and has a long history in the food and beverage industry. You can follow his coffee journey on instagram (if he lets you): @iurigrandini

Why did you choose to enter the AeroPress Championship?

I decided to take part in this championship, because in my country, I have been doing this championship for four years and I have always participated. Moreover, for me to participate in competitions is a reason to put into practice the things I study and learn during the year.

What’s your favourite way to make coffee (other than AeroPress of course!)?

The ways I prefer, in everyday life, are: Moka (Bialetti), espresso, and v60.

What led you to using the AeroPress?

I think AeroPress is a fair compromise of the systems that I like the most - it is a filter (like Moka Bialetti and v60) and it is fast (like espresso).

Which grinder will you use for the competition and why?

I will use Mahlkönig Vario Home for two simple reasons: 1) because for me it is a personal affection, I was given it by a dear friend of mine and it was the first grinder I had at home. 2) because it is a ceramic grinder, in my opinion, that has a very high performance.

How did you get in to the coffee industry?

The coffee sector for me is pure passion, because when I was born my parents already had bars, restaurants, and pizzerias. So, I could have been interested in many other subjects, but thanks to competitions, trips to the origin of cultivation, and the constant study of matter coffee has become a real passion. Driven by this passion, I have always tried to combine work and passion and this is what I have been doing for many years every day. I consider myself a lucky person.

What are you most excited about in coffee?

I have always liked coffee, I come from a country where there is always coffee ready at home. Since I was young I have always had the pleasure to taste this magical drink, but the best thing is that this sector is constantly evolving, thanks to the studies of the specialty sector and so this always makes me curious and always stimulated, this is what I like about coffee.
